Pros

Domtar offers fantastic benefits and a high rate of pay for entry level employees. The medical benefits and employee incentives are better than any other job I have ever held.

Cons

The work is very dangerous. Close proximity to heavy machinery that you are warned over and over again 'can and will kill you' can cause a lot of anxiety, which can become unbearable for many when mixed with an almost unreal amount of heat. Paper making involves a lot of water and steam, and their facilities do not circulate air very well. Training is long, and while they claim it takes a very hands-on approach, this really just means that they expect you to learn on the job, and there are very good chances that the person assigned to train you will take the opportunity to sit in the break room while you do their job for them. The company also uses a southern swing shift for lower ranking employees, making a sleep schedule a difficult thing to set in stone.

Pros

You support a local site. Good rapport with other departments and hourly makes the job great.

Cons

Company merger. Domtar was the gold standard between the 3 companies. Now, Resolute seems to make all the decisions despite being the farthest behind in IT.
