Pros

There's great opportunities for learning. The way that Duke does it is unmatched. They are very good at ensuring their policies are met and there is great opportunity to learn.

Cons

They provide very limited training and will give you opportunities without training and blame you if they fail. They have a VERY SPECIFIC way they do things and the you deter from that in the slightest you will become a social pariah. This is further exacerbated by the gossip and hierarchical blame culture that is fueled by pressure on middle management. In my short time there there was so much stress on the middle managers/ subordinates that they lashed out emotionally at those underneath them and there were two medical events related to that.

Pros

Strong job stability in a regulated utility environment, along with competitive pay and solid benefits package. My immediate team is genuinely supportive and collaborative — we work well together and have each other's backs. The work itself offers a sense of purpose given the essential nature of the industry.

Cons

Upper management operates with limited transparency and decisions flow strictly top-down, with little visibility into the reasoning behind strategic choices. The compensation structure does not differentiate for high performers — annual raises tend to land at or below inflation. Work groups across the department are heavily siloed, which limits cross-functional collaboration and slows knowledge sharing and adds frustration.
