Nuclear has a 4 day work week. Hybrid work from home schedules allowed for professional jobs. For some jobs 100% work from home. Good job security. Salaried employees are paid their hourly wage after 45 hours during maintenance outages.
Cons
If you work at a generation plant, when there is a loss or risk of loss to generation, you will be called in. 1-2 times a year this can require working night shift. Maintenance outages are typically 20-30 days of 60-80 hour work weeks. Budget for projects is lean, highest priority projects get the budget. For engineers with older systems this can be a source of frustration if you're continually applying bandaids to keep it running. While several health care plans are available the only one that makes financial sense is the High Deductible plan. If you have family members with chronic conditions this can be a burden at the start of the year when the deductible resets.
