Pros
Strong company with good benefits and great hours. Work-life balance is great, and they encourage community service. Everyone I've come across in the past 2 years is very nice and helpful.
Cons
Current department tends to focus on the negative, rather than the positive. Upper management tend to micro-manage. Duke is a very large entity with a lot of departments and functions. As is typical each business unit tends to operate in silos. There is no cohesiveness and everyone seems intent on re-inventing their own wheels, rather than looking at what parts of the business are successful and adopting these policies and procedures across the board. There is a great lack of communication from upper management down to those who actually do the work. Too many meetings about what to do, and not enough action.
