Pros
Not many, money I guess..and not much of that either. Employees can earn as much working in other industries, and often more - without the added stress.
Cons
High work load, stress, behavior issues, unhealthy work environment. Having to stay after your shift ends due to staffing issues (Yes, this occurs often). Problem staff are difficult to terminate due to lack of action by upper management (fear of legal actions) and responses to mistakes or errors made by a few individuals result in all staff being forced to receive remedial training, instead of correcting the individuals causing the problems. Work environment is very stressful when your supervisors themselves do not themselves understand the direct care job duties - have not received training, and are in fact very uncomfortable if asked to assist with any aspect of it. Staff cannot respect a leader who lacks the basic skills and knowledge of the job being performed.
