Pros
Great world-life balance. The county has great benefits and supports healthy lifestyles through fitness programs. The pay is competitive for many positions, though living in Vail Valley is quite expensive. The county administration makes frequent changes, which can seem silly at times but they are looking at a Kaizen approach to public administration; constant incremental improvement. I think it works.
Cons
While the county supports professional development, the departments are naturally small, resulting in career stagnation. This is not as much of a problem for people intending to living locally, but for career-driven employees not attached to living here, it can be a motivator to leave earlier than they would otherwise. The country also needs to root out the bad managers that don't perform and are just defacto managers due to their presence in the county for long periods of time. This is regardless of education, performance metrics, and other qualifications.
