Pros

You need money? They pay money. It's a union job (the union is useless) but you might be into that?

Cons

Poor communication between departments. Staffing is a disaster. Education for nursing needs to go way beyond Foley catheter care. Safety is not a priority in this hospital. You will consistently be dangerously understaffed. Physicians push patients out in record time. Certain physicians don't answer pages. At all. "Everyone knows it" and no one does anything about it. No critical care physicians on site during evening or night hours. Some are hard to find during the day. No pharmacy staff at night. Inexperienced charge nurses.

Pros

Wonderful boss, a lot of autonomy, wonderful relationships made.

Cons

Can be isolating work, a lot of reading of documentation, on-call MD's not always approachable.

Pros

Decent benefits; some good coworkers

Cons

Working in my department was a terrible experience. Management created a toxic, cliquey environment where poor treatment of employees was the norm. Raises were nearly impossible to get, no matter how well you performed. The workload was unreasonable, there was zero work–life balance, and anytime staff brought up concerns, leadership simply ignored them and never made changes. Managers regularly piled extra work on people who were already drowning, and the overall atmosphere was unprofessional and draining. Turnover was constant and morale was consistently low.
