Pros

-learning how to work as a team in a challenging environment (because your team is all you have. You will get zero support from “leadership.”) -learning about eating disorders (from patients, floor staff, and clinicians). The experience you gain here will make you a qualified candidate when you move on to a better company.

Cons

“Leadership” consists of a group of people who have worked there for awhile, are friends, and are willing to ignore the needs of the patients and their employees and lie to them to continue making higher profits. This used to be a respected company that took care of their patients and staff. A few years ago, preceding a middle market buyout, they paid a consulting firm to report that they had too many floor staff. Then came “rightsizing,” through terminating tenured staff and recidivism. Then came their 2nd middle market buyout and “restructuring,” cutting floor staff even further while simultaneously increasing their workload, and eliminating what few job perks were left for them. Floor staff are not allowed to advance, while “leadership” constantly sends All Staff emails congratulating each other on their promotions. None of these “leaders” would ever be considered for a leadership position elsewhere, so they stay, and floor staff is eternally stuck with horrible “leadership.” Patient care here is so awful, nonexistent even, that it appears to be part of their plan- to ensure an endless stream of “repeat customers” because patients are guaranteed to not get better. Patients do have appointments weekly with some fantastic clinicians, but for the rest of their days and nights they get almost no support because there are so few staff on the floor- often a 6 patient: 1 staff ratio, and sometimes a 15 patient: 1 staff ratio. Group therapy is often run by floor staff who get notified 5 minutes before group starts that they are the one facilitating it, with minimal and sometimes no materials provided, and with no training or guidance given. This is inappropriate for the acuity of these patients, and is wildly inappropriate considering the expensive cost of treatment there. There is no future here. If you are a healthcare professional, don’t waste your time with this company.

Pros

ERC Pathlight has a meaningful mission, and many employees genuinely care about the work being done for patients and families. I appreciated the opportunity to contribute to healthcare marketing initiatives and gained valuable experience during my time there. I also worked with several talented and dedicated colleagues.

Cons

My primary reason for leaving ERC Pathlight was leadership and team culture. The biggest challenge was not the work itself, but the management environment. I experienced a leadership style that felt toxic, overly critical, inconsistent, and lacking in support. Communication often felt more focused on pointing out mistakes than providing coaching, clarity, or opportunities for improvement. Favoritism was also a rampant issue within the company. Employees were frequently expected to navigate unclear processes and shifting priorities with limited guidance. Asking questions or requesting clarification could feel discouraged rather than supported, which made it difficult to feel psychologically safe. Concerns about leadership behavior did not feel like they were addressed in a meaningful way. Growth opportunities were also a concern. During the interview process, I was given the impression that there would be opportunities for development, but after joining the organization I was told there were limited growth opportunities within my role. **Advice to Future Employees:** Ask detailed questions about your specific manager, team culture, growth opportunities, how feedback is handled, and how processes are documented and shared before accepting a role. The mission is meaningful, but your day-to-day experience will depend heavily on your leadership team and management style.
