Pros

1. Absolutely stunning home campus. Beach volleyball, bodegas, artisan coffee shops, sprawling over-the-top tech decadence. Announces to the world, “We are the best at what we do and no one can stop us!’ 2. Employee benefits and perks are over the top. Food, dry cleaning, mobile phones, healthcare on campus are heavily subsidized. Free electric car charging, covered parking, extra holidays. 3. You will interact with the smartest people in their fields. Truly a place of deeply talented individuals and leaders that will inspire you to do your best work every day. 4. Mission is simple, effective. Everyone’s bought in from the top to the bottom. 5. Consistent and reliable financial performance and growth. 6. Big bonuses, great employee stock program.

Cons

1. Profit over patients culture driven by a win at any cost mentality. Edwards will walk away from accounts if they are unwilling to pay the Edwards price. 2. Work life balance is a myth. If you have a family, this is not the place for you. If you have older parents or younger children to care for, this is not the place for you. If you have hobbies outside of work, good luck enjoying them. Racking up unused PTO is an unofficial badge of honor and ‘dedication’ to the mission. If you regularly use PTO, you will be marked as ‘not dedicated.’ 3. Performance culture driven by fear of losing your job. This has to do with a combination of the company performing so well for so long and the long line of people who want to work at Edwards that current employees know they are replaceable at a moments notice. 4. Talent development is comically absent. Edwards mantra is: ‘Hire the best talent. Drive them into the ground. Dump them. Repeat.’ 5. Diversity is tolerated. Conformity is promoted. Edwards talks a really good game and the LinkedIn posts prove it but if you are not a Caucasian male with a faith based in Judeo-Christian principles, good luck rising through the ranks. They don’t want that kind of diversity up there. 6. Tribalistic, protectionist culture of ‘me versus them’. If you’re new to the organization, your default position is ‘a threat’ and it is very hard to gain the necessary political relationships you need in order to survive. Long term. 7. Edwards is not a meritocracy. Achievement is not the currency to future professional growth. Instead, it is about who you know, who to place best on, who you align with, and who protects you.
