Pros
In the SE VA area, this is probably the only place you'll receive competitive pay. It's also nice to have your pick of multiple IT organizations if you have the skill. If you're willing to move out of state, you'll have just about every opportunity to move forward in an IT career.
Cons
The business partners are your biggest hurdles. They expect the world and only provide the minimum in requirements and funding. On the government and commercial areas, everything is driven by metrics that were created 5-10 years ago. If you try to point out mistakes or errors, you'll just be told to keep quiet and fix their mess. Work for the business side if you can...
