Pros
It's a large company with deep pockets, so, if you align to their highly-woke values, it will be a place with some opportunities & decent compensation. Of course, your position will come with solid medical benefits, including an HSA if you'd prefer out-of-network treatment. They are striving to catch up with things like AI / ML, etc., so more interesting partnerships & technologies coming in the future. Also, things do slow down in the Winter, though, so that they go into a 'freeze' with production systems, so this allows employees to have more time off towards the holidays.
Cons
* Corporate culture is increasingly very woke, coloring almost everything. Even social justice, to the point of partially undermining the company, is being pushed. Be prepared to be bombarded on auto-loaded screensavers... * Leadership from the top down often claims servant leadership, but does not live it. The expediency of immediate performance and risk aversion very often trumps sustained, high-performing teams through true servant and trust-based leadership. ...and if you intend to servant-lead your team, there is a decent likelihood expediency from the top down will impact your efforts to do so. This leads to stress and pressure to sufficiently perform, a lack of leadership transparency / participation in decisions until they are handed down from above and a perpetuation of that bad culture by senior and mid-level leaders often hiring / promoting 'mini-me' leaders to work for them. It also makes a cultural shift increasingly difficult. * They were very much towing the government line on COVID-19 response: semi-mandatory vaccines, masks, distancing, etc. As a health care company, their approach should have been more scientifically based, but they were not. (Scientific information / peer-reviewed studies about all of these measures is out in force now to show the irrationality of all of it.) * Many leaders also are very impersonal when it comes to organizational development, often not taking much time to know their talent, as good servant leadership would, to see where they would fit into the organization to maximize their gifting and value as well as to promote their careers. Mostly, what is sought out and done is with those the leader things will bring immediate benefit into their organization while the others are more left behind. Little purposeful mentorship and career development by supervisors, except for particular ones for whom that is a personal value. ...and a lot of this is likely also driven by time and urgent pressures to accomplish the work overriding the more systematic, purposeful building of high-performing teams.
