Pros

It's there. You come in, do your job, get your meager pay-check, and go home. Otherwise, good if you're a senior manager.

Cons

Might be a decent place if you're a manger, but not a good place to work at a staff level. The starting pay is very low, with annual adjustments only in the 3.5% range. It was explained to me once that GWLA always tries to pay at the 45 percetile in salary surveys. Turn-over is high, and whenever a position opens up, the supervisor/manager trying to full the position constantly complain how difficult it is to full the position at the low wages. I've seen managers frequently get promoted, but rarely see staff or supervisors get promoted. Often see low level manager/supervisor positions filled from the outside. [Given how much managers complain about filling staff positions at such low wages, I can't help but wonder if managers feel it would be easier to hire a manger, than to promote and need to replace staff.] Unless you're a senior manager, there is no career development or professional growth. You basically are there to do your current job, and that's it. I've never worked for a company that didn't have some kind of career development, goals, etc as part of the annual review processes; GWLA doesn't.

Pros

Responsible Time (which is truly encouraged to be used and is one of the only things keeping people above water at the moment); great coworkers

Cons

Company is growing too big, too fast and employees simply cannot keep up and are burning out. Too many changes at once and employees feel senior leadership does not notice or they simply don’t care. Associates who have been with Empower since the beginning are saying this is not the same Empower they once loved working for.
