Pros

ENERCON is an employee owned company and provides consulting services in very competitive markets. This requires efficiency and oversight on multiple levels of project management and engineering supervision. This is due to tight profit margins, and if there is no profit, there is no reason for the company to exist... Are you interested in having opportunities? This is the place for you. Want to carve out your own path? Come on over. Want to sit at your desk all day and wait for someone to tell you what to do or surf the internet all day? Maybe you should consider a different spot. Have a lot of experience and feel you should be rewarded for it and not have to do much other than tell someone a few times a day how experienced you are? You'll be the problem here and why one day someone will write a scathing review on this site. Over the long run you will get out what you put in here. You are the only asset this company has. It doesn't make money while you sleep, so it's not going to be like Google. We serve demanding clients and balance that with the wants and needs of our own staff. The company is undergoing a culture shift and it's not going to happen overnight. However, you can be empowered to make change happen and as an employee owned company, you have a great opportunity to be rewarded for it in your career. Since the day I started here I've consistently heard from my complaints and when I've been the one whining, "Well... How would you do it then?" That's not being disingenuous, people really want to know. For the most part, the leadership does the best way that they know how to do things based on their experience. Many are open to change and good ideas. Some other pros are the people at this company. The majority of people will drop everything they are doing to pitch in. That's been huge for me in my career. The company has been focused over the last year at listening to employees and making changes. Some examples are moving to an alternate work schedule (every other Friday off), promoting product line development, loosening up the restrictions in a number of policies and procedures, providing more tools for productivity, and providing a multi level leadership development program. This is a good company and not even close to being one in financial distress. I've been with this company over a decade and I can't remember one quarter where we were even close to losing money.

Cons

Some of the incentive programs could use a refresh. Gainshare has been spotty the last few years as we've reorganized and changed our vision. This has driven negativity into monthly presentations because people lose track of reaching stretch goals vs. how we've maintained profitability even in the face of adversity. Still have some poor leaders in spots that create divisiveness in the organization although many have been driven out or have changed to a production role where their impact is minimized. Clearly we haven't communicated well with former or current employees based on their outlandish and ridiculous negative reviews on this website. Don't believe all the negativity you read here. Unfortunately tough decisions have to be made when running a business based on market conditions, locations of your business, and many others. It stinks that many people had a bad experience but there are over a thousand employees at this company still and the majority of them would be happy to tell you many positives about their experience but they just don't see it worth it, like the few dozen who get on this site and trash this company.

Pros

I enjoyed working with my colleagues - they brought a lot of experience and were wonderful to be around. No complaints about pay or benefits, have yet to pay out of pocket for routine eye, dental, or health exams. Some of the travel was cool.

Cons

PMs underbid projects like crazy. We'll have a good proposal drafted up and PM will say "cut 20%" with zero insight into the details and possible repercussions. Of course they disappear once the project is underway and the engineers have to answer for why the projects are out of money. OT is technically available, but since projects are on thin budgets from the start, there's never any available budget to use it. Leadership wants you 95% billable which makes everything cutthroat. People constantly fight over hours to make sure leadership doesn't come around asking why they have more than an hour of OH on their timesheet. I’ve had coworkers beg me for work. After spending a few days getting them hours, they were often no longer available, because they were trying to work on other projects as well. And although we were all fairly knowledgeable, we didn't have any internal standards, so we basically resorted to practices learned from previous jobs, which made for disjointed submittals.
