Pros

The people you work with are some of the smartest you could ever interact with. Those who are doing the real work at ERCOT are top-notch and create a wonderful environment. Room for advancement.

Cons

Unfortunately, once you get to the manager level, it all goes to hell. Managers are only concerned with covering their own butts and care little about the overall mission/success of the company. Too often, departments end up fighting with one another and nothing is done to improve morale. The micro-managing that occurs is enough to drive you to drink. Too often I heard from my supervisor that their manager needed to approve something and the VP above them would also need to sign off. It ends up being a case-study in poor leadership.

-From a Power Systems perspective the job provides unique exposures as the ISO operates the entire Interconnection as it's a small island unlike the Eastern and Western interconnections. -Low and Middle management do in fact listen to their employees. -Work culture promotes flexibility and freedom as long as we deliver results. -Work/life balance is generally good compared to other companies.

Cons

-Pay could be better given industry strandard. -Depending on your department lots of after hours working during projects outside the regular job duties. -Referencing the aforementioned con, work/life balance can be poor during projects.
