Where do I begin with this company? They’re so blinded by ‘the old times’ where they were a boutique recruitment agency working in shoreditch trying to make a name for themselves they’ve completely lost sight in the present aka nobody cares what you’ve done in the past or how great ‘the good old days were’. It’s the reason alongside others why they practically cannot grow. Every year (I’ve been there for just under 2years) is kicked off with the same talk about growing the headcount yet when the year ends they’re back down to 20-25 consultants; it’s a revolving door. They have this micro Management, telly sales approach to recruitment which means they can’t forge real relations with prospective clients. Whilst I was there the top biller made his name off one keyclient, maturing their relationship. Was this picked up by Explore’s management as a tool to train there staff on how to create longstanding relationship? Ofcourse not.. ‘get on the phones!!’ Was the message. Minus a few people in the back office team who are good people (head of people in particular) the whole management team is full of ‘successful’ recruiters trying to turn manger, and they wonder why they can’t retain their staff? Being a female in the business is a tough task. I really struggled fitting in. Management have no peoole skills whatsoever and no interest in anything other than ‘what deals can be done in the week’. You can literally see become disinterested within a few seconds of asking you how your day is going; usually just walks off mid sentence. They make you feel like doing your job e.g working passed positions is some sort of favour, usually expecting consultants to jump through hoops to get the opportunity to work roles. If you’re looking for a company which supports your goals and pushes you to do well whilst understanding your strengths and weaknesses, avoid explore at all cost. If you’re looking for a company where you’ll be micromanaged, degraded and made to feel uncomfortable due to the racial/sexual slurs which run thought the office, explore is the place to be. Advice for the management at Explore - make people who work for your company the important people - Change how you approach / treat individuals, this isn’t a cult it’s a workplace. - Pick good people managers to lead your work force, top billers aren’t always the best managers however whatever way you to spin it. - Stop the fractions of the management team having any contact with staff on a regular basis, 70% of the reason people end up leaving.
