Pros

Insurance benefits. Not sure of how to rate CEO as I was impressed with how he hit the ground running. However, shortly after the intensity of his approach led me to think they’re preparing to sell, which happened in summer of this year. And from what I read afterwards he and other board members are or were under investigation for setting themselves up a little too well prior to the sale.

Cons

Although the company overall showed very good revenue, they would not allow hotels to be properly staffed resulting in burnout of the GMs because they were then required to work 24-7. They’ve been on a firing frenzy for a year of VPs and DMs. Not because of lack of knowledge but because of their handling of the managers and associates with so many attempts to cover their tracks with retaliation. There is a class action lawsuit against Extended Stay in California because of their violations of state OSHA. In a nutshell, someone had the idea to not have the GMs perform their managerial role and instead use them for housekeeping, porter, laundry, front desk. This wasn’t occasional or rare, GMs were working 6 - 7 days/week 12+ hours a day. When you speak with coworkers in other states you learn the real role of the GM includes working with revenue, doing P&L, hiring, and so many other responsibilities that fall within GM purview. The DMs would do it so they could use the GMs for labor work.

Pros

Great leadership from management! My GM has really taken me under her wing and ensures I have all the knowledge & tools available to be the best I can be. She goes above and beyond for the entire staff, consistently shows her gratitude, and never asks anything of the staff that she isn’t willing to do herself! Customer service is my favorite line of work and the only work I’ve ever done. ESA is my first hotel job, and I feel so at home with the company. When I was initially hired, I was just looking for a way to make ends meet. I’ve been with ESA for over 90 days now, and I have grown to love being a part of this company. I am in it for the long haul, and look forward to growing with this company and advancing my career!

Cons

I have no cons. My employment so far has been amazing!
