Pros
The pay and benefits package for an engineer straight out of college is incomparable. It is difficult to think of any other paid profession that will pay as much as an O&G engineering jon right out of college. Women get paid maternity leave (3 months) and vacation starts off at 28 days a year.
Cons
Work is super intense. If you are working in an Operations role, you will work weekends - guaranteed. Work hours can be anywhere from 10 to 16 hours a day, depending on whether you are working onshore or offshore. Also, there is a stacked ranking system which has its own pros and cons - more so cons than pros in my opinion. High fliers are identified early (in their first year) and for the most part, will be placed on an accelerated career path. Individuals not identified as high fliers in the beginning will rarely be placed on a fast track towards upper management, even if competency increases exponentially later on in their career.
