Pros

A good place to gain a lot of business experience, both transferable and non-transferable. International environment, lots of people from different parts of the world. Structured and organized environment, driven by rules, logic and numbers, no nonsense here. Flamboyant business, big numbers. Serious company who genuinely cares for the employees. Very good health and safety focus. Good benefits package. The management is open to hear suggestions from the employees, if they make sense. Overall good training is available, both in-house or provided by recognized external companies, including learning of foreign languages. There are career opportunities but on the long run, for those who are quite patient and can live with the cons over the time.

Cons

Too much bureaucracy and procedures, trivial things become relevant and steal time from the truly important ones; this is the result of the prevailing risk-aversion, all-safe culture at EM. Military-like authority and ranking systems, which force employees to continuously 'fight' between them, or they'll become stagnated. Some good performers according to KPI's are promoted to supervisors but lack the necessary people skills. The bad performers just stay at their current position for years, continuing with their evident low performance and being a bad influence.

Pros

Great all around compensation - from salary, benefits (401k & pension & flexible work], medical [fantastic] Great people - at the company you understand everyone around is came from being one of the smartest people at their previous job/university. Within IT the overwhelming majority of people really care for you, this feels way more collaborative than competitive. Career Development - lots of opportunities to grow in breadth of experience to get deep in your skills and grow in leadership skills

Cons

Work Politics - being such a large corporation with a lot of history there is a tendency to be work politics/red tape sheerly because of the size of the company. However, it is not really bad if you are willing network , put yourself out there to talk with leaders, and be a normal hard-working enjoyable employee. If you do these two things you will succeed at ExxonMobil.
