Pros
The pay is really nice and the job has some challenges to keep you busy and on your toes. You know you are doing important work so you really feel like your job and what you do matters.
Cons
Management is terrible, schedules are never consistent, Don't expect patterns. Managers are incredibly mean, abrasive, and two faced. You should not count on them to take your side unless you have been there a number of years (They care more about keeping RN's happy than you, so you can expect to feel like you are getting thrown under the bus sometimes if someone is unhappy). You feel like just a number unless it's convenient for them, and that's usually for retention purposes. They will often ask nicely for a favor from you, and once you agree to do what they want they will berate you. They are not subtle, they treat you like you are a child being scolded. Training process in incredibly fast, you are not given enough time to learn the job unless you have already done staffing. Then you are thrown out on your own to fail. My work space is very small and I am all alone for 9-11 hours at a time. If it is busy it is typical for you to not get any of your breaks because you have to man the phones. Managers will get on you for not taking breaks or not clocking out on time (Sometimes both events need to happen to get staffing done throughly). And in general Moral is super low at my location. RN's will also be very mean sometimes. You can also expect to feel very pressured to work out of your FTE. I had two co workers that were called 3 times in one day (On their day off too) to cover a shift they did not have and did not want to take. They said they ended up being bullied into it and Management has not idea how the job actually functions so they don't want to cover it themselves. It is a mess to work here and stress levels would be a lot lower is management was better and RN's didn't take advantage and bully newbies.
