Pros
Fairview's values are Dignity, Integrity, Service, Compassion, Innovation. As an employee, we're continuously brought back to those values in our work and decision-making. The Fairview/ HealthEast/ UMMC system is huge, so I obviously can't speak for everyone. But I've been there for more than 3 decades and can say that, overall, it's a great place to work. My coworkers are focused on quality patient care and supporting each other toward that goal. Management is supportive, available and approachable. They encourage and allow employees to create and enhance processes. The working environment is good, hours, pay and benefits are great. Being part of a large system is beneficial in that we can provide comprehensive care to all patients. It also allows for a wide variety of choices for employees- both professional and for our own healthcare. My advice to any current or new employee would be that if you don't like working in one area, seek one that more closely fits your needs and desires. There are many amazing clinics/ departments.
Cons
I work in one of the more rural regions. Over time UMMC has become the hub for so many specialties. We do a lot of reaching out to the University and sending patients there to see needed specialists. It can be a struggle to convince elderly patients to go to downtown Mpls for their care. I'd love to see the University send more specialists to the outer clinics, or for Fairview to provide some means of travel to those specialties in the metro area. More shared specialty providers would make more rural opportunities for employment and better professional collaboration between the provider groups.
