Pros
I've been lifeguarding for five years now, and Fairview has been my favorite place to work. The pool (as part of Behavioral Support Services) is a single guard facility, so it provides for a lot of independance as an employee. Pros: -high level of independence -in charge of the facility (the staff that comes down with the units must listen to you/ follow your rules and commands) -clean facilities -lots of free time (typically three or four hours of real work in an eight hour day) -can do homework/ read/ netflix as long as work is done and units are not in the facility -retirement benefits (offers 403b for a part-time position) -discount options (health clubs, movie tickets, play/ musical tickets, Valley Fair, Minnesota Zoo, health clubs, etc.)
Cons
-information takes longer to get passed along than is needed (information is often relayed to the unit staff about a patient's behavior in the pool AFTER they have already been discharged) -occasional high stress job (due to the pool being for behavioral/ chemical dependency patients) -pool area doesn't get as frequent attention from housekeeping
