Pros
When I started at Farmers 10 years ago I expected it to be a stepping stone opportunity. After a couple of months on the job, networking with others in the company I learned why the overall experience with the company is so high. The people are GREAT - everyone truely cares about one another. When you work at a company that continues to have a pension AND a 401K in addition to a company wide bonus program you know that they care about their people and want them to grow with their organization. It is not hard to find peers that have been with the company since they started their careers and you'll hear the same from most of them - that they didn't intend to stay but the culture locked them in.
Cons
At times in the field offices we can get disconnected from the larger operations in L.A., OK City and KS City. Offering similar benefits in our smaller offices would be nice (I.E. employee promotions such as sporting event tickets for exceptional behavior). Although this is difficult to do in smaller offices it would be a nice "atta boy" to reinforce positiveity. I also believe that our leadership team can be at times too removed from the day to day business that drives our company. More time from them in the field, not only talking to us but actually shadowing would be a valuable initiative.
