Thank you for taking the time to provide a review. As a company, we care what employees are saying and work to implement change when we receive constructive suggestions on ways to improve the lives of our clients and employees. Please see comments below and we’d also invite a conversation with you on your situation and how we can improve this.
Regarding your comments on overtime, leaders are often the ones who work not only the smartest, but also the hardest. FAST is the leader in this industry. We hope that FASTies are proud to be part of something special and unique, and that they recognize that their hard work helps keep us on this path. Someone for whom a 40-hr standard work week, and 100% predictability are the priority may not be a good match with FAST.
As you pointed out, FAST pays employees for the extra hours. Pay is not the end all be all and it is important to FAST that employees have time to do what they love outside of work. To help balance this, we communicate project schedules, so employees can plan their R and R around peak times. Project Managers work with the team to help manage the work load and offer staffing support from other sites during rollout as needed. During these times Project Managers and team Leads encourage team members to continue to do things that they love and that give them a chance to get their mind away from work. For example, an employee has the freedom to choose participating in a sports league on a Tuesday night and working on Saturday instead to meet their deadline.
In regard to your experience with overtime, the situation you are describing is not FAST policy. We advise you to contact HR to discuss your situation. We are willing to work with employees and understand that people will get sick and need time off, but we do need you to communicate your concerns so that we can help.
Regarding you comment on performance, we’re not sure how familiar you are with performance evaluations after being here for less than a year, but it is not measured by overtime. It is measured by the quality of your work. It is also measured by your actions as a “team player and how much you help others when you have the ability to do so.
Regarding your comment on “technologies used are pretty limited and old”, our system is constantly evolving. Our objective is to provide functionally rich, reliable and affordable software to government clients. We will take advantage of any technologies that help us achieve those goals. However, because the governments are massive enterprises upon whose services millions of citizens rely, we emphasize functionality, reliability and stability over jumping on emergent tech. Many of our competitors in this industry have failed doing just that. We appreciate every business must evolve to remain viable, but it is important that we evolve our use of technology not just for technology’s sake, and that we always remember the citizens we serve. This approach has proven to be extremely valuable to our clients, while also providing FASTies with a rich environment in which to develop their technical skills.
