Pros

- Some good people work here - Training program offers some good sales classes

Cons

- Much of the management are disconnected from the people in their teams. I have seen numerous people get passed over for promotions in favor of less qualified individuals. I know of people who were unethical to customers not get fired and I've seen others get fired for honest mistakes. - Fastenal doesn't value its employees yet demand unwavering loyalty. - Pay is well below industry average. Commissions are terrible. - The benefits are terrible. Only offer 10 days of PTO for the first FIVE YEARS. No reimbursement for cell phone for employees expected to be in the field 75% of their time. No paternity leave. No ability to work from home. - No bonuses or even annual raises. I worked in the same role for 6 years and was still making the minimum base when I left. For Christmas they'll send you a box of junk food. - Very cheap organization, won't hire new people full time and expect qualified individuals to work part time for months. This creates a huge labor deficit and overworks current employees. - Decades behind on implementing technology into the business. The website search function is one of the worst I've ever seen. Most employees search products on google in order to find on Fastenal.com. - Awful marketing, Instead of ranking on google or buying radio ads they spend money on a NASCAR and having the logo on NHL ice.

Pros

Great company culture, love the investment they put in for career advancement. Great people to work with, CEO is amazing but he's stepping down this month. Benefits are good. Decentralized organization so your ideas and solutions actually get listened to and implemented. Feel like I'm actually making a difference in the company.

Cons

Pay is lower than the industry average for most departments and they don't keep up with the cost of living, don't do bonuses (unless you're in sales) or pay raises. You have to ask to get one and most times they say no. Very male dominant at the branches and in sales, but many women in corporate leadership. Don't have any DEI initiatives. Not flexible on relocation for internal management roles, have to be at corporate HQ in Winona, MN.
