Good work if you like 'some' flexibility - Dockworker/Forklift Operator FedEx Freight Employee Review

Pros

Dock work at FedEx freight is a 'Get in and get it done' type of job. You clock in and get to work, when everything is done everyone goes home. This type of job is great for young people out of high school or starting college who need an income without many prerequisites, or someone looking for a semi-flexible second job for some extra income.

Cons

At FedEx Freight the 'Get in and get it done' atmosphere often leads to disengaged employees who are also not very informed on company policy or news. Also the freight industry is subject to the ebb and flow of the economy leading to freight levels being very low in some months and very high the next. This often leads to cut hours for part time workers during low times, and extra work for part time workers during high freight levels. A solid predetermined schedule is sometime difficult to determine under some circumstances.

Pros

- Insurance benefits are offered to part time employees - Pay is sufficient based on being part time - Management will send some communications regarding big picture matters - There is some leniency regarding calling out of work

Cons

- The requirement to maintain insurance is becoming more difficult - Employees are not paid the same rate simply based on tenor rather than qualifications - Management will rarely, if ever, address direct employee concerns - Leniency for calling out only seems to apply for certain employees - There is no standard of training or written expectations readily available once hired
