Flexible but challenging - Abstractor Flatiron Health Employee Review

Pros

Remote, completely flexible hours, important work, good side job/temp job, company provided laptop

Cons

Despite having a ton of experience in nursing and oncology research, I found this job challenging. You painstakingly search clinical records for certain data points while adhering to specific guidelines. The guidelines are not always straightforward, so you must be good at interpretation. You are constantly learning new modules and having to switch mental gears, so it’s hard to get proficient in one area. You are also constantly being audited for accuracy and efficiency, so there is a bit of pressure. Overall, it's a good remote side job for some extra money, but I wouldn't depend on it for more than that. They frequently run out of work by the middle to end of each month. They do have better positions you can work your way into if you are really good, but those positions require travel 2-3 times a year.

Pros

Smart, kind colleagues that all care about the work Inspiring mission Flexibility New CEO/COO have a direction No toxicity

Cons

There are constant changes - reorgs, layoffs, new leadership, etc. Some things are unnecessarily complex and cumbersome but the new direction is focused on tackling this Limited promotions and opportunities for career advancement in general

Pros

Flexible work, anytime and anywhere. Flexible number of hours. Meaningful work. Good managers.

Cons

Terrible pay and poor career opportunities. No raises have been given for nearly 6 years, during which time cost of living has soared 35% or more, and during which time they've actually reduced benefits (decreased bonuses and continuing education fund). There is no financial incentive to work beyond the bare minimum because of the terrible pay and lackluster bonuses. I applied to a higher level position which perfectly matched my background and experience; despite working for them (without a raise) loyally with quality work for 5+ years, I didn't even get an interview. There is just no future at this company.
