Pros
If you are in the consulting group, you have the opportunity to use new and interesting technologies. In the last couple years, I have learned a lot and gotten to use some really cool new frameworks and technologies. The company is marketed as a solutions company, and for the consulting group, this is certainly accurate. It is great to be on a team that finds a cool solution to an interesting problem.
Cons
On the flip side of consulting, you can also get unlucky when joining a project that uses technology that you don't like or is ancient or just plain awful. Clients often have deals with large software houses like EMC that bring in business, but that means that we have to use those products, even if we know they aren't the best tool for the solution. People can often get stuck on these kinds of awful projects for a long time.
