Pros

Office perks (snacks, catered lunch, nice desks) of being a VC-backed startup

Cons

I would recommend Flexport if you want a future in logistics or supply chain, not if you want to be in tech. As a non-technical employee, I joined Flexport thinking I would be surrounded by great tech and innovative people, but my office felt more like a call center. Overall the company felt very siloed with very little to no interaction across teams. I think my manager even said to me "you don’t need to know what other people are doing to be good at your job.” For some people they may be content with this, it was not that difficult to do well, but I didn’t feel significantly challenged in my role.

It’s unfortunate you didn’t experience that in your role. In 2020 we are implementing new initiatives to support our managers, including external coaches and training that will help our managers be more effective at Flexport.

Pros

The compensation was strong and competitive, and it was consistently the best part of the job. If your priority is pay in the near term, that piece delivered.

Cons

I struggled with the lack of stability. It rarely felt like the ground was solid, and that uncertainty was hard to sit with over time. Return-to-office expectations seemed to change more than once, and I personally didn't find the reasoning behind those shifts clear. It was hard to plan around. I also found the performance review process difficult to trust. In my experience the outcomes didn't always seem to line up with the actual work, which made it hard to feel like I knew where I stood or how to grow. There was A LOT of turnover in leadership during my time there. With direction changing frequently, it often felt like priorities were in flux, which made it next to impossible to stay oriented.
