Pros

Students and professors are very skilled and knowledgeable. Facilities are excellent.

Cons

The school continues to refuse to raise the grad student stipend (we get $24k, while many schools give $30-25k). I actually did the math, and I would make more money working only 40 hrs/week at most McDonalds. Additionally, school is refusing to give adequate raise in light of inflation (FSU is fighting the grad student union over a 1% raise when inflation is 6% - a raise of anything less than 6% is a paycut.) Tallahassee is not cheap to live in - rent has gone up significantly this year (Can't find a 1 bedroom apartment for less than $1000/month, and housing with roommates near the university is also expensive (avg $600-800/month)).

Pros

Great opportunity to gain hands-on research experience, flexible part-time hours that work well with class schedules, and supportive faculty mentors who guide you through academic projects.

Cons

Pay can be low for the amount of work involved, tasks can sometimes be repetitive, and workload may vary significantly depending on the research project and professor.
