Pros

Contrary to what some may think, working at a university has several benefits. For one, employee tuition waivers are amazing and let you continue your education for free. Another great benefit is the health insurance options, which are in line with the state. Also, the paid time off per year is really hard to compete with, especially for the private sector. The atmosphere is also pretty relaxed and goal driven. You are constantly surrounded be well educated people.

Cons

Parking is one serious negative. Another is the drama that comes with dealing with students and parents. The third and most annoying is dealing with the people who think you owe them something; because, your salary comes from tax dollars.

Pros

Great opportunity to build real-world equity research and financial analysis skills. Supportive and knowledgeable faculty who are willing to mentor students. Flexible schedule that works well alongside coursework. Strong exposure to company valuation, financial modeling, and investment research. Collaborative environment with motivated and ambitious peers. Excellent resume builder for students pursuing finance, investment banking, or asset management. Opportunities to present research and improve public speaking skills. Encourages independent thinking and critical analysis of businesses. Hands-on experience using financial statements and market research. Valuable networking opportunities with faculty, alumni, and finance professionals. Gain experience working on projects that mirror real industry work. Good balance of autonomy and guidance throughout projects.

Cons

As a student position, advancement opportunities are limited, and workloads can vary depending on project deadlines. Much of the learning is self-directed, so success requires taking initiative. Compensation is modest compared to private-sector finance internships.

Pros

Great first job out of undergrad. Pay was decent and benefits were GREAT. Lots of opportunities to build connections in other departments and grow within the University. Good job security.

Cons

If you end up with poor management, the poor job security becomes a bad thing. It takes forever for a bad seed to get removed and this effected morale during my time here.
