Pros
Easy to get hired, any idiot can get work there. Discounts are great. Easy to move up if you get in good with a manager. Health benefits are decent. Have the ability to apply all over the country. Can finally utilize a website from home to enter in requested time off. At my store, there are some really superb leaders and coworkers with fantastic attitudes, great communication skills, and a great ability to work hard, even while being abused by upper management. Our store director is pretty amazing too.
Cons
You could have an amazing manager: understanding, down to earth, respectable, great decision maker, hard worker, great disposition and personality and WHAM!...that manager gets a better job elsewhere and you get someone who is nothing like that manager and have to adjust to their decision making and behaviors. Basically, your work environment depends if you have good management, but not only that, depends if the people they hire are actually competent. Too many people work there that cause drama, have horrible personalities, and crappy work ethics. To top it off, you have to wait six months for health benefits, but you have to wait THREE years to get dental???!!! Makes no sense to me. Union is probably necessary with Kroger stores, but man, they sure take a nice chunk. The music....OH GAWD...the constant crappy music is enough to put you in a sour mood. I have to say, I HATE the company who sells this crap. Every store I go to, it's the same contemporary pop crap....lowest common denominator garbage. AAAAAHHHH!
