Pros
- Free breakfast and lunch buffet, coffee bar, onsite gym, snacks, and more provided by the Verily campus. - Annual compensation review and biannual performance reviews. (But you’ll only get promoted if your manager likes you) - Amazing and wholesome coworkers for the most part. (But there are toxic, deceitful people who you cannot trust) - Company is growing at an incredible pace and building constantly. However, the growing pains and problems don’t get addressed and that creates a toxic environment which results in lots of top talent calling quits and lost.
Cons
Management Extremely junior managers who are power tripping and think that they can provide a “good experience” and “career growth” to their employees, but in reality it’s all an illusion in order to manipulate their “teams” into being submissive and docile. Despite advocating for honesty and trust, none of them exhibit these traits and small issues are blown out of proportion. Do NOT trust them as they will never actually resolve the issues. Micromanaging to the max. They will not trust you with a task and constantly follow up or set up meetings for them to tell you what they want you to do. If you have an opinion or idea that goes against their ideas, you will have a false sense of encouragement but behind the facade, they had shut you down instantly. “Thanks for putting this together, it’s great! But…can you add xyz and revise this?” It will be a never ending loop of unsolicited feedback and you will feel like you never achieved anything because nothing is ever finished. Tasks are tabled indefinitely until a random few months later when they ask about it again. New policies will be announced out of nowhere and they will treat you like children. The reasoning behind these policies are illogical and if you resist then you will drown. Simply incompetent. They will make decisions not based on actual knowledge and real experience but only what they gather from documents. They say they lean on those who perform the actual work but if it does not align to their ideas, then your opinion doesn’t matter. Interruptions and using larger and stronger voices to overpower anyone else’s ideas. The managers are constantly fighting during meetings and whoever has the strongest voice or pulls the most votes is victorious. They can never reach a decision that everyone approves of and will constantly try to change “decisions” that have been made. They’re too scared to commit to anything. Manipulative and gaslighting. They will make you question your own sound logic and who you are as a person. They will try to change you to be more docile. At the end of the day, they will create mental health problems that you never knew were possible for you. Hierarchy and Favoritism If you are docile and conform to their ideas, then you will be the favorite. If you resist, then you will be painted as the bad apple. They will attempt to paint themselves as trying to help but they are creating the problems and adding fuel to the fire that is a crumbling “team”. You cannot promote teamwork if you do not exhibit it yourself. If you are at the bottom of the food chain, you have no say. A manager has directly confirmed this. The managers are sending a message saying that everyone under a certain level is incompetent regardless of how many mistakes higher level “competent” coworkers have made. If they catch wind that you are looking at different careers or even think about leaving the team, they will not promote you even though you are extremely talented and appreciated. Career development is a JOKE here and a fake unattainable goal. No work actually gets done at Freenome and that is why their timelines are off by 2-6+ years at best. Work is constantly repeated due to changes that come out of nowhere. There is so much drama and no one is actually trying to work together to build what could be a life saving product. Discussions are NEVER ending and decisions are never true. Everyone is scared to ask questions or submit feedback because nothing is actually truly anonymous and they fear consequences for speaking out.
