Pros
Paid time off hours accrue quickly. Most co-workers are professional. If you prove yourself to be a good worker, the management that I have worked for demonstrates trust and voices appreciation regardless of whether you're part of the "clique". Get the time off to apply for other county positions. Retirement plan/pension. As always with a government job security, there is job security.
Cons
Low pay. Expensive health care. Paying into a pension is mandatory. The cost of parking if you work downtown. Lack of safety precautions. They can, and often do, shuffle assistants between job posts despite what the employee prefers. "Don't get comfortable" is the motto. All promotions have to applied for just as if you were coming in from start. Have to pay union dues regardless of your participation or not.
