Pros
The company (internationally) has excellent products, R&D, and growth potential. Compared to other "majors" in the oil industry it's a more ethically managed company with a greater focus on synthetics and "niche" product markets. Within the US organization, many of the divisions have some great people and talented workers. This may vary by division, but remote workers in sales or field engineering have a good amount of independence and a fair travel budget along with a hybrid company car.
Cons
Management can do much better. I think the place is changing for the better with the assistance of outside consultants and elimination of the former CEO, but there are still problems at each of the manufacturing locations. Sales people can be territorial and petty - calling on others' accounts, behaving like schoolyard gossips, and keeping toxic politics alive and well. Benefits along with bonus/commission structures are confusing at best and may be misunderstood by employees or simply not explained well in the on-boarding process. If you have a company car you pay a fee - and a fairly hefty one at that compared to similar organizations. Benefits are okay (but expensive!) for employees not residing in Illinois. Sales structure in terms of products sold, allowable distribution, pricing, etc etc is a quagmire and was likely leading to some of the pettiness and territory issues described above. The Harvey office was almost uncomfortable to visit or work in for any stretch of time. Some great people there, but a very strained environment. Other offices were more relaxed and did not have the same culture. During my tenure there seemed to be an even mix of growth and turnover across the US, especially turnover for those in upper management.
