Pros

I like the people and projects, and I get a lot of latitude and trust to pursue different business opportunities, to form my own project teams and working groups, and I get to contribute to staff development and the company direction. All of those things make it a rewarding job.

Cons

The company doesn't have the size or capacity to compete for the largest and most challenging engineering projects in my discipline.

We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying a rewarding career at GEI. Our culture is supported by experienced seller-doers who can enjoy the autonomy of building successful consulting careers while developing and mentoring others. We encourage our employees to develop strong relationships with our clients and work on projects that solve complex problems, challenging them to grow with new experiences. As an employee-owned firm, we strongly encourage our employees to be involved in the business-side of what we do and need every employee to contribute to support our company’s success through our five-year strategic plan. In some circumstances, we may not have the capabilities within our firm to pursue all large projects in every geography we serve, but we do win some of the largest, most complex projects across the country. When we win these large projects, often we do so in a prime position with teaming partner firms. Thank you for your dedication to GEI with a decade of work; we look forward to continuing to count you as a valuable member of our team and achieving even greater things going forward.

Pros

Some of the people in the office/other branches were great and I continue to have friendships with them to this day.

Cons

If you’re a young professional, say good bye to seeing the inside of an office. You’re 100% in the field with no room to learn other parts of the job and grow your own client network and report writing. The dynamic between the leadership group (Amber Ahles and Brooke Bennett) and younger professional (especially females) was terrible. This was a mean girls club where you are judged by what you wear, what time you walk in and out of the door, and if you had an opinion. They never would take accountability for failing the younger professionals and then just blame you for not growing and improving at the pace they wanted you to. At the end of the day, management and leaders are responsible for the growth and success of the team. Additionally, if you want to be bullied by mid level professionals, who think they are superior to you and gang up with management, this is the place. Johnnie Noles will take care of that for you. In all, the only good thing this job brought me, was the “experience” to take myself anywhere but there. The way you treat people matters. And these three people single handily ruined the experience for me and others I have spoken with. Do better.

Thank you for taking the time to share your candid feedback regarding your experience at GEI Consultants. We sincerely appreciate your honesty and recognize the importance of learning from both positive and negative experiences shared by our team members, past and present. We are glad to hear that you formed meaningful friendships with some colleagues during your time at GEI Consultants. We strive to foster an environment where collaboration and respect are central to our culture, and we are pleased that this aspect of your experience was positive. We are truly sorry to learn that you felt limited in your ability to grow professionally, especially in terms of client networking and report writing. Supporting young professionals in their development is a priority for us, and your feedback highlights areas where we need to improve our approach to mentorship and the allocation of responsibilities. The concerns you raised regarding the office dynamic, particularly around interactions between leadership and younger professionals, are deeply troubling. We take allegations of exclusionary behavior, lack of accountability, and bullying very seriously. Our goal is to create a welcoming and respectful workplace for everyone, regardless of background or experience. Your feedback will be shared with our People Team and senior leadership to initiate a thorough review of our current practices and to identify steps toward improvement. Thank you again for your thoughtful and detailed feedback. We regret that your experience at GEI Consultants did not reflect the values we strive to uphold, and we are committed to making meaningful changes based on your insights.
