Pros

Benefits start immediately which is nice and the pay is higher than similar positions in the field. Management encourages promotions as well as moving to other departments though that depends on availability in your office.

Cons

Initially starting this job I had thought that it would be smooth sailing. Geico makes sure to give you a lot of training and eases you into the position at first. However once your truly put into the main day to day the job became one of the most degrading I have ever worked. Your constantly taking calls from people who are upset, knowing that each second on the phone spent trying to help them despite their attitude towards you will only count against you since the main metrics that your held to are how many calls are handled and how many perfect reviews you receive. This has an effect on you that can only be understood once you’ve been subjected to it. At a certain point even easy calls become frustrating as they begin to get shorter and shorter, only making the space between each tough call that much smaller. To add to the frustration, looking to a supervisor for assistance with these challenging calls tends to just ends with a half hearted suggestion of “try saying this next time” or even a comment of “yeah sometimes calls will be like that” adding to the reality that this isn’t just a temporary part of the job till you figure things out, it is the job. At the end of the day your job isn’t really about helping take customer requests, it’s about being a shield for Geico and absorbing all the frustration that customers have as quickly and efficiently as possible so that upper management doesn’t have to interact with the people that actually provide their service to. I’m only glad I realized all this sooner rather than later.

Pros

*Pay and your ability to negotiate as an external hire are better than most places *You are only expected to work 7 hrs and 45 min; clock-out time is on the dot and strict.

Cons

*Understaffed; multiple people are on medical leave due to the toxic work environment and the metrics system *Leadership is usually unprepared and inexperienced; there is a serious lack of understanding from leaders when you address inconsistencies in auditing. A lot of leaders score people's work inaccurately, and depending on whether your leaders like you, the appeal process is rarely honored. *there is hardly any overtime so many people work off the clock, even when addressing this with directors and HR- nothing will change. they will protect the company; everyone is aware that people are experiencing wage theft- no one does anything to change it out of fear of losing their job. * If you point out any discrepancies, you will be targeted-there is a consistent issue with retaliation at GEICO.
