Pros

Freedom to create own schedule, work remotely, access to thousands of professionals and subject matter experts across the globe. Paid leave for jury duty. Great people.

Cons

Large Australian based, international corporation with Australian values, Adoption of DEIA and ESG goals and policies that may or may not align with individual beliefs or values. As with any large international corporation, there is a lot of paperwork and legal corporate processes that slow down productivity but are necessary for corporate consistency, Common sense lacking at times in these processes. Excessive pressure to produce. This environment requires self advocacy to ask for support, find the right people, be noticed or heard, and strict self discipline to allow for any chance of work life balance. Salary vs Hourly positions can leave employees feeling taken advantage of while not being acknowledged- this goes for any large international corporation. Large portion of employees work remotely entirely- getting to know coworkers and feel loyalty to the brand takes work. High bill out rates compared to pay. Employee ownership program only open to select employees invited by upper management. Few mid level senior professionals with time to mentor new grads and staff engineers. Mandatory holiday shutdown and employee PTO use.

Pros

Great starting point as an internship, gives you good experience to the professional and consulting world, pay for an engineering intern is satisfactory. Values of the company and support from coworkers is appreciated. Seems to be a psychologically safe place to work and make mistakes. No noticeable workplace toxicity or politics. Everyone seems to be authentic and chill. Not noticing anyone keeping their heads down and received reports of satisfaction with work environment from coworkers. Exposure to a variety of projects, including field work experiences. Seems to be a solid resume builder.

Cons

Need to be pretty proactive for work. For me who enjoys having work to do, its kind of stressful. You have to take initiative in making your own plan. For someone who thrives in structure and needs a bit of help in planning, this is a struggle. Limited flexibility in doing a hybrid role (even though job description stated it was when I applied) For someone who is 42 mi from the office and with heavy traffic takes 1h 15 min to reach the office, its a struggle. But I understood that my commute time is longer than average when I took the position.
