Pros

Honestly, the only great thing about this position was the 50% discount at The Gap and Banana Republic, and the 25% of at Old Navy. Occasionally you will have a supervisor or manager who genuinely cares about you and wants to see you advance. I also enjoyed the company of great co-workers from time to time.

Cons

Where do I start? Management claims to care about the well being of its employees but they definitely do not. They mostly only seem to be concerned about making numbers for the day, signing up people for credit cards, and harassing people on the sales floor to buy something. The claim that they have a fair chance for people to be promoted from within based on performance, experience and education. Also not true. I started working with the Gap back in 2009 when I was a Junior in college, and when I came back home I moved to a new store. When the manager took me in she claimed after the holiday season I could be promoted to managerial level and she also claimed that my pay would be raised. ALL LIES! Every manager except for 1 was younger than me and still in school and had only been with the company for a year, and my pay was worse than what it was when I first started. Managers talk to you like crap, and they only want to give you hours when someone calls out. Favoritism and kissing ass gets you a long way here. And god forbid you have an issue that you need to get solved: IT NEVER WILL! The run-around is what the specialize in here.

Pros

Good health benefits, some 401k match

12 hour shifts, subpar bonus', limited upward mobility as managers and upper management did not want to promote from within and risk operational change causing productivity decline
