Pros
- Work and pay is better than working retail or service jobs - Easy to get hired - Flexible - Pretty easy to pick up overtime shifts if needed
Cons
Security work is an easy dead-end. There is no career here. Gardaworld has no real benefits besides some bad health insurance. There's no paid vacation or sick days. It's easy to get trapped because the work is so easy and pay is good relative to being a burger-flipper. The only real way to succeed in security is to up-qualify into things like cash services, trying to climb into corporate or getting hired or getting hired in-house or to a better paying role. And it's easier to have those qualifications as ex-military and ex-cop. Security is good if you want to have a good fallback while job-hunting or study or work on homework during slower shifts, but it's far too easy to coast. Negotiating a good post selection will also affect your working conditions greatly and I don't recommend taking overnight shifts as those will drain you.
