Engaged Employer

Overall, a good place to work. - Senior Software Engineer General Dynamics Mission Systems Employee Review

Pros

Definitely they are the type of company that is willing to train and educate their employees to do their respective jobs. While there are the same typical politics that exist in other organizations, they do seem to be very employee focused and do seem to genuinely care for their employees...at least where I work. They are very open about compensation and publish the salary grades for almost every position in the company (on the internal website) and there is an anonymous message board where pretty much anything and everything seems to get addressed there. Certainly, any administrative support I've needed was dealt with appropriately.

Cons

It is very project focused and knowledge doesn't seem to get propagated across different programs. Of course, as we're all essentially contractors for the government...when the program winds down, we'll all get RIF'd if there's no follow-on work and that's an obvious downside.

Pros

GD-MS seems to win *ALOT* of proposals and contracts. There is always the next big thing at GD-MS.

Cons

Contractors 411: Typically, contracts terminated with no notice. Today will be your last day. Please wrap up your work. It was a very low-rate contract too. Made alot of sacrifices to be on this program. Culture resembled a human wood-chipper ala FARGO. Many senior engineers leaving en-mass. I was asked to take over the role of the engineer who left just prior to my arrival. I called it: I will be next. Good experience once in your life to go thru the human wood-chipper. Toughens you up. However, GD-MS is a great example of how it is that legacy aerospace companies are dying rapidly and startups will be the future in aerospace.
