Good Company with some growing pains - Mate Genesis Energy Employee Review

Pros

Great benefits, competitive pay, very little turnover with employees at least on the Offshore side. Paid travel to and from the vessel. When vessels are in the shipyard they do seem to be willing to spend the money to fix the vessel the right way and they have converted 3 vessels to ATBs.

Cons

Some paperwork is redundant. Dispatchers seem to all be entry level which makes the communication flow a little difficult at times. Upward mobility is difficult because of the low turnover rate. That is good and bad I suppose but its hard to have to wait on someone to retire or pass away to get a shot at a Captains position. There have been a lot of changes in management in the last few years and it has made things difficult for the crew on the boats. Shipyard periods seem to be rushed more than normal by certain individuals which may have burned a few bridges with shipyard reps. Paid holidays were cut from 7 to 3, safety bonus' were cut out and yearly cash bonus' were cut.

Pros

Flexibility is the only thing that keeps people employed here, because there’s definitely no room for growth, no structure, and lacks any type of organization.

Cons

Upper management gets away with retaliation against employees, embezzlement, and gross mismanagement. They have no clue how to manage a boat company. It’s a constant CIRCUS and somebody is going to end up getting killed in the fleet if this company continues to be “managed” like it is. Go elsewhere. WAKE UP, HR and protect Genesis Energy from the executives at Genesis Marine. It’s a sinking ship.
