Opportunities for growth, flexible schedule, ability to develop research focus in chosen area, institutional support for pilot projects available, relatively few barriers to implementing new ideas, excellent students, state school provides access to education and sense of mission in educating a diverse student population.
Cons
Frequent state issued salary freezes, tenure track faculty expected to work 12 months on 9 month salary, excessive administrative responsibilities get in the way of teaching and research, lack of sense of faculty community, minimal structured mentorship program, lack of faculty diversity and faculty is slow to recognize that this needs to be addressed.
