Pros
There are a lot of smart people around, and if you have time there are fantastic opportunities. The benefits are excellent. It is an exciting place, still growing and trying new things.
Cons
Research professors (soft money hires) often cannot take their vacation hours because they are either writing proposals to cover their job, or on contract with deadlines, deliverables, and less support for these than at a for-profit company.
