Toxic Workplace Culture - Office Manager Georgetown University Employee Review

Pros

It's been a couple years, so this may have changed since I worked there, but at the time, they offered great benefits. A choice of 3 health insurance options, retirement match up to 10% and all you had to contribute was 3% to get it, and free tuition after a year of working there.

Cons

This was one of the most toxic places I've ever worked. The School of Foreign Service is known for high employee turnover. It's a caste system, where professors have all the power, students are secondary, and staff are the lowest on the totem pole. Everything is contracted out so it would take 3 weeks to get a lightbulb changed, performance evaluations are extremely biased, and if a manager wants you gone, she will get her way.

Pros

Job security throughout budget cuts happening in the public health industry currently. Plenty of PTO and holiday paid leave.

Cons

Constant threats by upper management to "write us up/disciplinary action" for anything. Director is really unfair/disrespectful/condescending to our supervisor and so that trickles down to data coordinators. For example currently there is a threat that we will be "written up" if we do not meet all the competing deadlines. Ive seen sooo people many come and go in this sector over the past 3 years its insane. Its alot of data to manually enter and one must be organized /driven and on top of your game but it gets borring if your not passionate about the cancer trials you are working on.
