Pros

Working with students every day is fantastic and you learn something new from them daily. The campus is absolutely beautiful and the faculty and staff that have been there for decades are very committed to their work.

Cons

However, the work environment for many departments, including mine, was extremely toxic. There were multiple human resource, investigations happening, lawsuits, and retaliatory firing by leadership for those who spoke up. I once sat in the meeting where one of the leaders of our police department called the rest of the mostly minority officers “idiots”. I also had a “leader” sit me down and say that they could help me be “successful” with my career path at the University if I stayed in my job, at the time I was the only person left. They brought in contractors to try and lead the department and they were completely unqualified and had inappropriate connections to previous University employees. It was an absolute mess. My mental health was in shambles by the time I left. I met with HR several times, and expressed my concerns only for them to take a confidential conversation directly to leadership. I will never, ever, recommend this institution for work, School, or otherwise.

Pros

Job security throughout budget cuts happening in the public health industry currently. Plenty of PTO and holiday paid leave.

Cons

Constant threats by upper management to "write us up/disciplinary action" for anything. Director is really unfair/disrespectful/condescending to our supervisor and so that trickles down to data coordinators. For example currently there is a threat that we will be "written up" if we do not meet all the competing deadlines. Ive seen sooo people many come and go in this sector over the past 3 years its insane. Its alot of data to manually enter and one must be organized /driven and on top of your game but it gets borring if your not passionate about the cancer trials you are working on.
