Pros

Ample hours available for work. The pay is on time and accurate.

Cons

The workers that are dedicated are treated horribly. The production hours are outrageous. Typical workers pulls 60 to 70 hours per week, yet, still have to wait for the supervisor to approve you to be released to go home. With added drive time and only a 30 minute lunch break, a person suffers routinely from fatigue, growing health issues associated with lack of sleep, and families being destroyed in order to maintain the income. It is too difficult to look for work elsewhere because the workers because persons are either too exhausted or on the production line. Accidents associated to fatigue can be expected despite the safety precautions and safety meetings. True Career advancement opportunities are discouraged should you be a minority. The company knows that there is a lack of job opportunities within the area, therefore, the union is useless and company does what it wants to do. The environment is super HOT and humid in the summer. A person sweats so much that it salty water drains in their eyes from the top of their forehead. The wages is far below national standards for the Emporia, VA plant. Cute females are an automatic sure win for an air-conditioned office job. The production volume for the day is set, however, more is demanded so that the management can receive their bonuses. Many of the supervisors lacks professionalism. They talk loud and bark orders like you are in a boot camp environment. Rudeness is the only way they think that they can achieve production numbers.

Pros

Talented and hardworking electricians, operators, mechanics, and plant personnel. Interesting automation and controls work with opportunities to solve challenging technical problems. Significant autonomy at the local level when responding to production issues. Good compensation and benefits. Corporate engineering resources are knowledgeable and generally willing to help.

Cons

Expectations and priorities frequently changed without corresponding adjustments to workload. Performance feedback lacked important operational context, such as competing priorities, project reassignment, and resource constraints. Communication tended to favor frequent meetings over clear written expectations. Accommodation requests and communication support were difficult to navigate and lacked a clear process. Single-engineer staffing model creates a challenging environment for vacations, medical appointments, training, and long-term sustainability. Heavy emphasis on immediate deliverables can make long-term engineering work and root-cause analysis difficult.
