If you're black, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. They are really racist. The short, balding white man is a gossip. He listens to your conversation and then relates it to big girl boss. He will lie on you too, unless you're a guy he thinks he can seduce. Watch out for him lurking around the office, he's listening at your door for information to give big ole boss lady. The older white man is very incompetent. Big ole lady keeps him around because she's a racist and would rather hire a white man on the spectrum than promote a competent black person. She likes to promote white people, period. Intellect not required for white people. Oh and if you tell her how great she is and you're white, you will find favor with her. If you see anyone getting promoted, it's because they're snitching. Don't trust them. They only like snitches and white people. If you're a white snitch you will be rewarded. Black snitches only go so far. The other white lady is very anti-black. She seems nice, but don't trust her. The lower level black lady is about her own promotion. Don't trust her. She will throw you underneath the bus to gain favor with the big ole lady. The higher up black lady pretends to not know what's happening in the office, but she knows. She's an uncle tom that doesn't want her position & income compromised. There is no one there to stand up for black people. Black people getting promoted are sycophants or sleeping with their boss. (lol-we know). Stay away. They will abuse you. Also, don't trust HR. HR is friends with management. They work together. HR will never save you, just get another job or never apply to this job. This was the biggest mistake of my life, but I learned a great lesson. The work: Advising isn't a hard job, but the UAC has found a way to make it the absolute worst career. Students are tracked through a few systems and then advisors track their students through an excel sheet. Advisors have to work this sheet. Meaning, all the information in the system you input on the log. It's basically data entry. This is the bulk of your time. The other half is persuading students to come to advising through emails and phone calls or making financial aid calls to students who haven't paid. Why don't they have mandatory advising? Why are advisors doing data entry and dealing with financial aid issues? Well, the UAC likes to manipulate their data because they have systems that really track this information, but using an excel log you can make the data say what you want it to say, which helps GSU shine in the local news for their advising model. You see how that works. In summary, it's basically a bunch of busy work and data entry. Advising students is like 35% of your job.
