Pros
Process being unbuilt and unwritten means that you and your coworkers can figure out best practices for yourselves. There's plenty of good folks working at GS. Depending on your department it might be very easy to take time off.
Cons
Low pay. Health insurance has high deductible or high monthly payment making it uneconomical for staff. No written process means arbitrary benchmarks of success and failure. Management considers not codifying best practices to be a feature, not a bug. Privileges of rank, high ranking employees frequently aren't subject to what few written rules there are. Not backfilling vacancies. There are multiple teams and departments on the admin side that have been short handed for a very long time, they won't so much as post the vacancy, and they continue to blindly hire attorneys and legal assistants. This has led to multiple salaried staff working many weekends with no additional compensation.
