Pros

The work - incredibly interesting deals and chance to be at the tip of the spear in the financial industry when things happen. The pay is terrific, as are the benefits Notwithstanding the financial meltdown, GS has definite cache and presitge in the financial world. You are working with some of the best and the brightest outside of McKinsey and Bain

Cons

Did I mention the work? Lots and lots of work, and then more work. Two briefcases: One for your work; the other for a change of underwear after sleeping in the office whilst working on an M&A deal. Forget going to your kids' soccer games, little league games, Lamase classes. GS is all about and only about the work. Word to the wise: Keep your own counsel. Any stinkeye remotely caught by the view of a GS Partner does not bode well for your career.

Pros

The firm encourages and supports to change teams, which is helpful in expanding experience or moving away if you aren't happy with your team

Cons

The promotion has become very opaque lately. They hardly give out promotions, but make you slog and overwork the whole year in the name of it. Basically, you have worked 200% and made to look like a fool by the end of the year.
