Pros

The team that I worked with was receptive to changes, friendly and overall a good group of engineers.

Cons

Working at Grand Canyon Education (GCE) has been a deeply disappointing experience due to its toxic work culture and the behavior of certain managers. I regret to say that the assistant director and front-end development manager are among the worst individuals I've encountered in my professional career. One of the most pervasive issues at GCE is the toxic work culture perpetuated by these managers. They routinely engage in gaslighting, micromanagement, and a blatant lack of trust towards their team members. Rather than fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, they create an atmosphere of fear and anxiety, where employees feel constantly scrutinized and undervalued. Micromanagement is a rampant problem, with these managers exhibiting an insatiable need to control every aspect of their team's work. This not only stifles creativity and innovation but also undermines the autonomy and expertise of their employees. Instead of empowering their team members, they suffocate them with excessive oversight and arbitrary demands. Furthermore, the lack of trust displayed by these managers is disheartening. Despite hiring skilled professionals, they seem unwilling to place any faith in their abilities or judgment. This leads to a demoralizing cycle where employees are constantly second-guessed, nobody trust each other and their contributions undervalued.

Cons

I have truly wrestled with what to write in this review, as I do believe there have been good aspects of the role over the past 4 years. However, I think prospective employees deserve a clear understanding of the role that is not included in the job description. This is a quota-based role. As a UDR, you are responsible for monthly metrics that must be met. It is a strictly sales job, and those coming from a previous higher education background will soon be shocked. To truly thrive in this role, a sales background is needed and the ability to work 50-plus hours a week. If you do not meet your student enrollments, you will be placed on an improvement plan. If you thrive in a fast-paced setting with continuous pressure to be more and do more, this is the role for you.
